
Defiance Suffers Loss Against Franklin (Ind.)

DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance women's soccer was defeated by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin (Ind.) College, 7-0, at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
Franklin (10-1, 3-0 HCAC) took advantage early scoring goals off of a pair of corner kicks beginning with its first goal of the game just 3:03 into the game. The Grizzlies struck again about three-and-a-half minutes later off of another corner kick to go up by a pair of goals, 2-0. Franklin continued to pile on the scoring adding goals during the 11th, 13th, and 36th minutes to lead by a commanding, 5-0. Freshman Maizy Lepkowski (Perrysburg) took the only Defiance (1-11, 0-3 HCAC) shot of the first 45 minutes, but missed by just inches as it soard high at the 26:18 minute mark. The Grizzlies maintained their five-goal advantage heading into the locker rooms with a halftime score of 5-0.
In the second half, Franklin struck early again scoring just over two minutes into the period at the 47:07 minute mark. The Grizzlies recorded their final goal of the game during the 76th minute to lead 7-0. Defiance managed an additional four shots in the final half with senior Jill Crowell (Kalamazoo Mich./Plainwell) taking a shot that landed in the hands of the goalkeeper. Sophomore Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) had two of the four shots in the period, but neither found the back of the net. Fellow sophomore Katie McGlacken (Canton, Mich./Canton) recorded the final shot with just minutes remaining, but the shot was saved by the Franklin goalkeeper.
The Yellow Jackets split time in the goal between senior June Delgreco (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood) and sophomore Meredith Remy (Mansfield/Ontario). Delgreco started and played the first half. She had three saves and had five goals against. The second half was started by Remy. She earned five saves and had two goals against.
Defiance will next travel to Anderson, Ind. for a HCAC game against Anderson (Ind.) University on Wednesday (Oct. 14). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
