Defiance Loses Conference Opener
TERRE HAUTE, IND.- The Defiance women's soccer team took on Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology at R-H Intramural Field in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, but fell to the Fightin' Engineers, 4-0. in today's match.
TERRE HAUTE, IND.- The Defiance women's soccer team took on Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology at R-H Intramural Field in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, but fell to the Fightin' Engineers, 4-0. in today's match.
Rose-Hulman (5-5, 1-0 HCAC) scored early with a marker at the 5:27 minute mark to grab the early lead. Sixteen minutes into the game, Defiance (1-9, 0-1 HCAC) sophomore Katie McGlacken (Canton, Mich./Canton) took a hard shot, but missed wide, and turned out to be the only shot taken by the Yellow Jackets in the opening 45 minutes. The Engineers then tacked on another goal at the 24:35 and took a 2-0 margin into the locker rooms.
The second half began in similar fashion as the first as Rose-Hulman netted another goal within the first five minutes during the 47th minute to increase the deficit to 3-0. The final goal of the game came at the 60:58 mark as the Engineers went on to lead, 4-0. Rose-Hulman held DC without a shot in the final period and went to post the 4-0 shutout.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meredith Remy (Mansfield/Ontario) played the entire game in net and had two saves, while allowing four goals against.
Defiance will host conference foe Manchester (Ind.) Univeristy on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
