Defiance Shut Out By Mount Union

ALLIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance women's soccer team was shutout by the University of Mount Union, 9-0, in a non-conference game in Alliance.

Mount Union (4-4) scored early and often as the Purple Raiders tallied three goals in the first five minutes to jump out to a commanding 3-0 lead.  Mount Union ended the period with a total of six goals following three additional scores during the 13th, 15th and 18th minutes.  Defiance (1-7) managed two shots in the period that came off the foot of sophomore Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green).  But both shots were stopped by the Raider goalkeeper.  The Yellow Jackets went into the locker room trailing 6-0. 

In the second half, Mount Union struck again quickly at the 47:37 minute mark that increased the margin to 7-0.  The Raiders went on to add goals at the 54:12 and 82:25 marks to round out the scoring.  The Jacket offense had two additional shots on goal during the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.  Freshmen Maizy Lepowski (Perrysburg) and Claire Stockwell (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle) had one shot a piece. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Meredith Remy (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood) played all 90 minutes in net and stopped 18 shots. 

The Yellow Jackets will be hosting Baldwin Wallace University in the first game of a soccer doubleheader with the DC men's team this Saturday (Sept. 26). The match will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the men at 3 p.m.
