LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance College made the long trip down I-75 for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Transylvania (Ky.) University, but lost to the Pioneers, 1-0.
Despite the loss, Defiance's (2-12, 0-4-1 HCAC) defense held Transy (4-11, 2-3 HCAC) to just one goal. The Pioneers had been averaging two goals in their wins this season.
June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Crestwood) had a career day in goal for the Yellow Jackets. She kept DC within striking distance for all 90 minutes. Transy scored its lone goal at the 17:50 minute mark. Besides that goal, Delgreco stopped every shot that came her way. She saved nine balls each half for a total of 18 saves on the day. That mark is Delgreco's career-high and tied for the second highest amount of saves all-time in DC history.
DC's biggest threat came from Chelsie Moyer (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) at the 16:38 mark. Moyer let go of a shot that forced the Transy goalie to make a play to preserve her shutout.
DC will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they play rival Bluffton at home. Start time is set for 3:30 pm.
