WILMINGTON, Ohio – Defiance College was held scoreless against the Quakers of Wilmington as DC fell, 2-0.
It was a defensive battle in the first half as DC (2-5) and Wilmington (5-3) played to a 0-0 halftime draw.
A lot of credit goes to DC's defense in keeping the Yellow Jackets close early. The defense gave up only two shots on goal, both of which June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich. / Crestwood) turned away.
In the second 45, both offenses pushed the issue a little more.
Within the first five minutes, DC was able to let go of two shots that were on target.
Lindsay Bubnick (Vandalia, Ohio / Butler) took the first shot on goal for the Yellow Jackets, just one minute into the second half.
Following Bubnick's lead was Katie Tilman (Miami, Fla. / LaSalle) who also forced the Quaker goalie to make a play on the ball with her own shot on goal.
Delgreco saved the first four shots that came her way to start out the second half, but could not quite get in front of the fifth shot on goal as the Quakers took a 1-0 lead.
The defensive kept the Yellow Jackets in the match until the very end when Wilmington found its second goal with just three and a half minutes left to play. That marked the final 2-0 score.
Delgreco stopped nine shots on the afternoon, keeping her season save percentage over .800.
DC will stay on the road as they travel to Oberlin on Monday for a makeup game. Start time is set for 7:00 pm.
