Lady Jackets defeat rival Bluffton, 2-1
BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Lady Jackets picked up a win against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton. They beat the Beavers by a score of 2-1 on Bluffton’s home field.

Despite being out shot 21-9, DC (6-10-2, 3-4-1 HCAC) was able to grind out the victory. Bluffton (5-9-0, 3-5-0 HCAC) also took more shots on goal, 11-7, during the match up.
Bluffton came out firing against the Lady Jackets, taking four shots against DC before Maegan Redick (Lima, Ohio / Shawnee) was able to keep the Beavers honest by putting a shot toward goal from the right wing.
By the end of the half DC was able to close the gap in the shot department. They were able to put up six shots to Bluffton's eight. Neither team was able to find net in the first half though, as the match stood at 0-0 during intermission.
Lindsay Bubnick (Vandalia, Ohio / Butler) then got it going early in the second half for the Lady Jackets. Karly Smith (Parma, Ohio / Parma) was able to find Bubnick at the top of the box just 90 seconds into the second half. Bubnick let it go and found goal, her fifth of the season.
Aimee Whitmer was able to tie things up for Bluffton in the 53rd minute, getting into the box and finding the back of the net for the 1-1 tie.
Bubnick wasn't done yet. Just a short five minutes after the Bluffton score, Bubnick was able to again find goal. This time from the far right wing to beat the keeper. That would be the game winning goal for the Lady Jackets.
In the last 30 minutes, Claire Turner (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) was able to knock away four shots on goal from the Beavers to secure the win for DC.
"The girls showed a really good fight today knowing we are out of the tournament, but they came out and showed good spirit," Head Coach Alex Van der Sluijs said after the game. "It says a lot about the character of these girls that they still want to go out, play hard, and get the win. I'm proud of them."
