OBERLIN, Ohio – The Lady Jackets were able to hold off a late push by Oberlin to get the 2-1 win. DC ups their record to 3-5-1.
Playing their first night game of the season, the Lady Jackets controlled the tempo early and often. Within the first 30 seconds of the game Defiance was able to get a shot against the Yeowomen. Despite the early shot by DC, both defenses were able to control their side of the field only allowing one more shot each for the next twenty minutes.
With just less than 22 minutes, Maegan Redick was able to find goal for the Lady Jackets for her second goal of the season. Karly Smith gave a nice through pass into the goal box that Redick was then able to chip over the diving goalie and into goal giving Defiance a 1-0 lead. Only one shot was attempted by either team the remainder of the half keeping the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
Neither team could get their offense going for the first 25 minutes of the second half, only managing three shots combined. Then things got going in the last ten minutes of play. The Lady Jackets were able to strike again when Redick was able to find freshman Kayleigh Marshall for her first goal of her career. Marshall got the feed from Redick and was able to beat the keeper and find the net for a 2-0 Defiance lead with less than ten minutes to go.
Then with just over seven minutes to go, DC got called for a foul inside the goal box. Oberlin's Taylor French was able to convert the resulting penalty kick to make the score at 2-1. The Lady Jacket's defense was able to hold tough the rest of the way, not allowing Oberlin to get a shot off to try and tie the score in the late minutes.
DC outshot Oberlin by 9-3 with 7-2 shots coming on goal respectively. The Lady Jackets open up a three game home stand starting Saturday against Baldwin-Wallace. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
