MARIETTA, Ohio – Defiance strikes first, but can't hold on for the win as they fall to Wooster by a score of 2-1.
After a win yesterday, Defiance's loss today makes them 1-1 on the weekend and 2-2 on the year.
The Lady Jackets put the pressure on early as a corner kick from Bibiana Parra's corner kick found its way to Kim Bingley. Bingley's attempt sailed just a bit high though and kept the score at 0-0 at nine minutes into the game.
Defiance struck first just a short ten minutes later though as freshman Darragh Hurst's pass found Karly Smith in the 18 yard box who put it in the lower left corner. That goal capped off a nice weekend for Smith who scored three goals on the weekend.]
That would be all the Defiance offense could manage as they failed to get a shot off the rest of the way. Just four minutes after Smith's goal, Wooster was able to find goal to tie it up where it stayed until half at 1-1.
With 20 minutes to go, Wooster's Kathleen Kalafatis was able to find the bottom right of the goal to put Wooster in front with the final mark of 2-1.
Defiance was able to put up just those two shots while surrendering 17 shots. The Lady Jackets play again at Heidelberg Wednesday, September 11 at 3:30 pm.
