Things started out pretty quickly for the Lady Jackets as senior Karly Smith let go of a kick inside the 18 and found the lower left goal for her first goal of the season just nine minutes into the game. Defiance's defense played very well the first half not giving up one shot.
The offense picked up for both teams the second half. A little over 12 minutes after halftime, Bethany's Sarah London scored to tie things up 1-1. That would be all Bethany could manage though as the Lady Jackets scored the next two unanswered.
Smith would put in her second goal of the game at the 69 mile mark. That would prove to be the game winner as Defiance's defense would continue to play well.
Then right before the 80 minute mark, Erica Islas would give the Lady Jackets plenty of cushion as she got open inside the 18 yard box and knocked it into the upper corner.
Defiance out shot Bethany 12 to four while they had eight shots on goal compared to Bethany's two.
The Lady Jackets play again tomorrow at 1 pm against Wooster.
