GREENWOOD, Ind. – To add on to the stellar season the DC women's soccer team is having, freshman goalie Claire Turner is getting some appreciation from the conference, as she has been honored as the HCAC women's soccer player of the week.
For the week of October 1st through the 7th, Turner was fantastic on the pitch, as she recorded 20 saves and only one goal in her two matches against Earlham and Rose-Hulman. For Tuesday's matchup with the Quakers, she surrendered only one goal in the 1-1 tie. The goal snapped Turner's 266 minute scoreless streak, but her play in the net kept the game from getting out of hand for Defiance. She notched 10 saves in the game on a barrage of 31 shots from Earlham, as DC escaped with a tie on the road.
Then in Saturday's matchup with the Fightin' Engineers, the Medina native was stellar again by recording another 10 saves and her fifth shutout of the season, as the Lady Yellow Jackets moved to 2-0-1 in conference play with the 2-0 victory.
The Cloverleaf High School product has been spectacular on the season, as Turner has played every minute of every match in the net for the Yellow Jackets. Her play in the last few weeks has been key to DC's 6-1-1 record in the past eight contests, in which she has allowed only seven goals and produced four shutouts.
DC will get back on the road Tuesday, October 9 for an away match against the Manchester Spartans. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
