DEFIANCE, Ohio – Kate McKelway's goal in the 49th minute proved to be the difference, as Defiance fell, 1-0, to Transylvania University on Saturday, October 18. The Jackets drop to 2-3 in the HCAC, while the Pioneers improve to 5-0.
The two teams finished the opening period in a scoreless tie, as freshman keeper Colleen Cross kept the Transylvania attack at bay with four saves in the period. However, McKelway's game-winner in the first four minutes of the final period would be all that the Pioneers needed, as the Transylvania outshot DC 22-6 in the match to record the victory.
Jordanne Buehrer led Defiance with three shots on the day, while Lauren Ranalli had two and Hannah Davis finished one. Cross completed the match with nine saves, pushing her past the century mark with 106 for the year.
The Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, October 21, when they travel to Adrian College for a 6:00 p.m. match. DC will look to snap a three-match skid with a victory over its regional rival in the first matchup between the two teams since 1999.
