DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaker to Bluffton University, falling 1-0 on Wednesday, October 15. The Jackets fell to their HCAC rival for the first time since the 1999 campaign.
DC had nine shots in the opening period of the match, including five on goal, but was not unable to find the net as the two teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes. The Beavers broke through in the 53rd minute of the match, as Meghan Forquer scored off a feed from Alex Jess to record the match's only goal. The Jackets came within inches of a game-tying goal with two minutes left, as Sarah Plas' shot from outside the box just cleared the crossbar.
Danielle Chadwick's three shots led Defiance, who outshot the Beavers 17-10, while Hannah Davis, Stephanie Lieto and Kaitlin Monberg each had two shots apiece for DC. Colleen Cross had seven saves in the match, putting her three short of the century mark on the season.
Defiance will return to action on Saturday, October 18, when it hosts Transylvania University. The Jackets will look to end their recent two-match skid with a victory over a Pioneer squad that is 4-0 in HCAC play.
