TIFFIN, Ohio – Kaitlin Monberg's second half goal helped lift the Defiance College women's soccer team past Heidelberg College, 1-0, on Tuesday, September 23. The Jackets have now won their last two, improving to 3-4-1 on the season.
Monberg scored the game-winner on DC's only shot of the final period, punching it in from the right side in the 72nd minute of match. Tuesday's outcome is eerily familiar, as Melissa Alston's goal with 18 minutes remaining pushed Defiance past the Berg, 1-0, nearly a year ago on September 26, 2007.
Colleen Cross recorded her second shutout in as many matches, improving to 3-4 on the season. The North Branch, Mich. native, who tallied 13 saves on the day, now ranks second in the HCAC in shutouts (2), saves (60) and goals against average (1.29).
Monberg and Stephanie Lieto each had two shots for DC, who won despite being outshot 24-7 over the course of the match. Jordanne Buehrer, Danielle Chadwick and Lauren Ranalli also recorded shots for the Jackets.
Defiance returns to action on Saturday, September 27, when it hosts Anderson University for a HCAC match at Matthew Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
