Second Half Onslaught Powers DC Past Taylor-Fort Wayne

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team outshot Taylor University-Fort Wayne 40-8 on its way to a 4-0 victory on Tuesday, September 16. The Jackets move to 2-4-1 on the season, improving to 2-0-1 when they score two or more goals.
DC and Taylor-Fort Wayne went through the opening period scoreless, as the Jackets were unable to capitalize on their season-best 18 first-half shots. However, Defiance broke the scoreless tie just four minutes into the final stanza, as Katie Finley scored on a ball from Alexandra Johnson to put DC up 1-0.
Kaitlin Monberg gave the Jackets a two-goal lead in the 72nd minute, on shot from the top of the box. DC would go on to score two goals in the final five minutes to round out the scoring on the day. Danielle Chadwick scored her second goal of the season on a ball from Lauren Ranalli, before Johnson's shot from 25 yards out gave Defiance a four-goal lead with just 13 ticks left on the clock.
The Jackets set season-highs in goals (4), shots (40) and shots on goal (16) in the match, while recording their first shutout of the season. Lauren Ranalli and Stephanie Lieto had a combined 15 shots, while Jordanne Buehrer, Chadwick, and Johnson each added five shots for DC.
Keeper Colleen Cross improved to 2-4 on the season, recording four saves in the match. The North Branch, Mich. native is currently ranked in the top five in the HCAC in six different statistical categories.
Defiance returns to action on Tuesday, September 23, when it travels to Heidelberg College for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
