DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College women's soccer team emerged from a 110 minute battle with a 2-2 draw against Mount Union College on August 31.
The Jackets found the net for the first time this season in the 23rd minute, when Lauren Ranalli booted a ball from Jordan Buehrer into the back of the net to give DC an early lead. The Purple Raiders responded with two goals in a three minute span to take the lead, 2-1. However, that lead proved to be short lived as less than two minutes later senior Sarah Plas put a shot just over the outstretched arms of the keeper to score the first goal of her collegiate career and knot the game at 2-2. The two teams combined for 19 shots over the final period and two overtimes, but were unable to find the net and ended the day with a 2-2 draw.
Ranalli led DC with four shots on goal, while Amber Harrington, Stephanie Lieto and Plas each had one apiece. Melissa Alston and Kailtin Monberg each recorded three shots in the match.
Kelly Coble had a great game in goal for the Jackets, tallying six saves on the afternoon. The sophomore keeper came up with several key blocks in crucial parts of the match, shutting out the Purple Raiders for over 106 minutes of the contest.
Defiance, 0-1-1, returns to action on Wednesday, September 3, when it plays host to Kalamazoo College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Matthew Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
