Defiance faces third-straight road loss at UNOH Wednesday
LIMA, Ohio - In its third away game in just eight days, Defiance College and Northwestern Ohio competed in the Racers' home facility, The Garage, on Wednesday. This marks the second matchup between the two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams this season, and third all-time.
UNOH (16-5, 9-4 WHAC) extended its winning streak to three against the Yellow Jackets (3-18, 1-13 WHAC), winning 111-46.
The first two minutes of the meeting featured a quick 5-0 lead from the Racers, followed by a jump shot from Taylor Haynes. Chandler Duncan hit a shot downfield for three in the fourth minute of the game, which became Defiance's last field goal of the first quarter, as the No. 5 team in the WHAC took off for 16 consecutive points.
A minute after being called into the game, Creedance Chittenden halted the Racer offense with a made jump shot. For the next 17 minutes, UNOH was able to create a 34-point lead, which slimmed by three when Alante Wright drilled her first three. Defiance ended the half with a 3-pointer from Duncan, who led the team with nine points into the break, though down 53-22.
For the first 4:39 of the third quarter, Northwestern Ohio held the Yellow Jackets scoreless until San'Taizia Thomas made a layup to decrease the home team's lead to 45. Twenty-three seconds later, Mone'a McElroy hit a three.
The Racers were able to continue their scoring and stay on top to close out the game — they lead the WHAC in points per game.
