WHAC No. 1 Indiana Tech bests Defiance Saturday afternoon
DEFIANCE, Ohio - On Saturday at Karl H. Weaner Center, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets welcomed a tough Indiana Tech team who sits atop of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The contest proved to be the Purple and Gold's biggest test of the season thus far as they were defeated 73-23.
For nearly the entire first quarter, the Warriors (15-4, 10-1 WHAC) held the Yellow Jackets (3-15, 1-10 WHAC) scoreless and forced them to shoot 7.7% from field-goal range and 0-of-3 from beyond the arc. Defiance kept fighting and Taylor Haynes was able to secure its first basket of the game with seconds remaining in the first period. The second quarter saw more of the same, though the Yellow Jackets found more success offensively with nine points to finish off the first half 37-11.
The first-half trends continue into the second as the Warriors were able to hold Defiance offensively. Jourdyn Wynn scored all three of her points in the third, and Alante Wright was able to find a successful shot from three to contribute for the Yellow Jackets. Indiana Tech persisted in the final quarter to go home with the victory.
THE TURNING POINT
Rather than one time in the game, Indiana Tech's ability to limit Defiance's field-goal shooting and applying pressure in the paint became a stressor for the Yellow Jackets. The Warriors were then able to build a steady lead on the other end of the court.
