Defiance falls short against Concordia Saturday
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In its first matchup of 2025, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets fell 80-35 to the Concordia Cardinals at the Cardinal Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Concordia came out scoring early and often as it jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead before Jourdyn Wynn was able to diminish its run with a layup for Defiance. The Cardinals shot 66.7% from the field in the first, on top 27-6 as the first buzzer sounded. Nineteen of the home team's first-quarter points came as results of the 11 Yellow Jacket turnovers. Morgan Crowe and Candyce Hollins were Defiance's other contributors in the period.
In the second, Concordia's offense slowed down and the Yellow Jacket's newest addition Alante Wright scored her first point in the purple and gold with a free throw, courtesy of a Cardinal foul. Just as each team scored nearly the same amount of points in the quarter (9-7), eight points from Concordia in the final two minutes propelled it to a 28-point advantage heading into halftime.
The Cardinals ultimately ran away with the lead in the second half.
