
Women's Basketball plays host to future opponent Lourdes University
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College women's basketball team battled future Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opponent Lourdes University Monday night at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The Gray Wolves won the battle, 82-32.
The game was an exhibition for the Yellow Jackets who remain 0-9 overall and Lourdes improves to 4-7 overall with the win.
The Gray Wolves scored the first five points of the game and Zadria King converted a layup for Defiance's first field goal of the game. Lourdes used a 7-0 run over the course of two minutes in the first quarter to take a 12-2 lead and would lead 20-7 after one. Lourdes once again poured in 20 points in the second quarter and took a 40-13 going into halftime. The Yellow Jackets struggled from the field during the first half, shooting just 15% (5-for-34).
The Yellow Jackets hit double digit points in the third quarter, scoring 11, but were still doubled up as the Gray Wolves scored 22. Defiance started the third quarter with a jump shot by King, a free throw by Kaiya Albert, and a three by Addy Allen. But everytime the Yellow Jackets scored, the Gray Wolves had an answer.
Lourdes would go on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 42-19 in the second half for the victory and led by as many as 51 which came with 4:35 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Gray Wolves shot 48% from the floor in the game and the Yellow Jackets finished with a 20% shooting mark (12-for-61). Zadria King led the way with 11 points and six rebounds. Addy Allen finished with six points and seven rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets next game will be a conference game against Mount St. Joseph at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 28 at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
