
WBB Preview: Defiance back home to take on Anderson

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's basketball team is back home after playing three straight games away from the Weaner Center by welcoming in the Anderson University Ravens.
DC, now 7-15 with a 4-11 mark in the HCAC, finished the month of December on a five-game winning streak to post a 6-5 record entering the month of January and followed with eight consecutive losses. Defiance broke that streak at Manchester last Wednesday with a 90-63 win but have dropped their last two contests, including a defeat at Albion on Monday night by a 70-57 final.
Anderson is third place in the conference behind Transylvania and Hanover with an 11-4 conference record and 14-7 overall. After starting 3-5, the Ravens have ripped off 11 wins in their last 13 games, including four in a row. Most recently, Anderson took down Franklin in overtime with an 80-75 victory.
The Yellow Jackets and Ravens last played on January 11 which saw DC fall 87-73 despite being within one point with nine minutes left in the contest. In the all-time series, Defiance leads with 27 victories compared to 22 by Anderson.
The Ravens lead the conference in scoring at 77 points per game but also allow the most in the league at 70.7 points per game. Twenty points of production come from the HCAC's leading scorer, Lexi Dellinger. Dellinger is also the conference's top 3-point shooter with 57 makes at a 42 percent clip, the leading free throw shooter at 88 percent and also doles out three assists per game, the fourth-best in the HCAC. As a team, Anderson's 223 3-point makes are the most in the league while DC leads the way in free throw shooting at 71 percent.
The Jackets are eighth offensively at 59.4 points per contest and surrender 63.1 per night. Taylor Day leads Defiance in scoring and rebounding at 10.4 points per game and an average of 5.2 boards. With just three games remaining this season, Day 79 points shy of 1,000 for her college career. Taylor Steinbrunner adds 9.5 points per game followed closely by Kalista Friday and Lexie Sparks scoring over eight points per night.
Tipoff for Wednesday's contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Weaner Community Center on the campus of Defiance College.
