WBB Preview: Defiance aims to beat winter storm and MSJ on Tuesday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Due to incoming inclement weather, the Defiance College women's basketball team travels to Mount St. Joseph a day early to try to snap a six-game losing streak. Tipoff at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Fans can follow the action with live video and stats courtesy of Mount St. Joseph.
The Yellow Jackets enter with a record of 6-11 and 1-8 in the HCAC with their last win coming against the Lions on New Year's Eve at the Weaner Center. Defiance won that contest 55-39 behind a 16-4 fourth quarter to pull away from the Lions in the late stages. DC was led in scoring with 14 points by freshman Kalista Friday and 10 more by senior Taylor Steinbrunner.
Since that December 31 contest, the Lions have gone in the opposite direction than the Yellow Jackets. Winners of three straight games and 4 of 5, MSJ is 6-2 since the last time the two teams played. Overall, the Lions are 10-8 and 6-4 in the conference. Their roster is bolstered by two scorers in the conference's top seven with Karlee Mills averaging 13.5 points per game and Madison Drummonds at 13.3 per contest. Drummonds' 8.2 rebounds per game are good for the third-best average in the HCAC.
In the Lions' last game, they edged out Anderson 54-52 to pull even with the Ravens in the conference race. Mills led all scorers with 16 points and hit three 3-pointers. The last time out for Defiance was a 13-point loss at Franklin in which DC senior Taylor Day set a new career high with 29 points.
With eight games remaining on the conference schedule, Defiance currently ranks eighth in the HCAC and three games back in the race to make the conference tournament while MSJ stands fifth in league play.
