
Yellow Jackets win third straight on Sunday
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College women's basketball team took down visiting Wooster, 66-40, at the Weaner Center on Sunday for the program's third consecutive victory.
The Yellow Jackets (4-5, 0-3 HCAC) never trailed to hand Wooster (1-9) their seventh consecutive loss.
Defiance shot 62 percent during the first quarter to build an 18-6 lead. From 3-point territory, Wooster shot 1-for-17 in the first as Defiance outrebounded the Scots by 16 over the first two quarters. The visitors had a five minute period without points in the first quarter and did not score in the second until 7:54 before half. Defiance cruised into half with the upper hand, 31-16.
Taylor Steinbrunner took over for Defiance in the third quarter by scoring the first nine points of the second half. She led all scorers with 15 points and pulled down six boards. Taylor Day added 10, all in the first half, and nearly missed a double-double with eight boards.
Defiance maintained their double-digit lead through the third and kept building throughout the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets were able to get every member of the team in the game as Taylor Bates, Katlin Barrett, Chyna Trois and Aliza Clark all got into their second games of the season. In DC's third straight game with 60 points or more, 11 different players got in the scorers column and the team shot 38 percent overall with six made 3-pointers.
Wooster shot 28 percent from the field that allowed Defiance to pull in a season-high 51 rebounds, compared to 33 by the Fighting Scots. Ella Biondi led Wooster with 12 points and seven rebounds.
DC returns to action Monday night for their final non-league game at home against Kalamazoo. Tipoff at the Weaner Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
