DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Defiance College women's basketball team pursues a third straight victory at home on Sunday against Wooster. Tipoff at the Weaner Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
On the heels of three straight losses to begin conference play, the Yellow Jackets earned consecutive road wins at Adrian and Hiram. The win at Hiram snapped a four-game winning streak for the Terriers. Defiance now stands at 3-5 overall and finish the non-conference slate with games on back-to-back days on Sunday and Monday.
One of Defiance's strengths has been a wealth of players stepping up on different nights. The Yellow Jackets have had six different leading scorers over the last six games. The last three games have featured career-best outings from Cait Good with 13 at Hanover, Kyle Brinkman's 18 at Adrian, and 18 by Kalista Friday at Hiram. Overall, Taylor Steinbrunner leads the squad at 10.3 points per game and 4.6 rebounds while seven players are averaging 5.0 or more. As a team, DC is now averaging 60 points per game entering a game for the first time this season.
Wooster comes to DC with a 1-8 record and six straight losses following their lone victory on November 19 vs. Hilbert. The matchup is Wooster's second meeting with an HCAC school this year after the Scots traveled to Bluffton on November 12 and were defeated, 77-36.
The Scots are scoring 51.4 per game, the lowest average among teams in their conference, the NCAC, while allowing a league-high 77.6 per contest. Wooster is being outrebounded by over 12 boards per night and shoots just over 31 percent from the floor. Individually, Ella Biondi is nearly averaging a double-double at a team-high 13.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Harley Holloway adds 11.7 per contest with a team-high 14 made 3-pointers.
Sunday's matchup is the first head-to-head between the two since December 2010 with Defiance picking up a 53-38 win at Wooster. Defiance leads the all-time series 10-3.
