Brinkman records career highs, Yellow Jackets pull away late for road win at Adrian

The Defiance women's basketball team traveled to Adrian College Tuesday evening and left with a 67-59 win, snapping a three game losing streak. Junior Kylie Brinkman scored a career high 18 points and drained a career high six threes in the win.

• "Our defense stepped up in the fourth quarter...we had a better effort on the boards in general...the girls challenged each other at the beginning of the fourth quarter to close the game out, something we've struggled at in some of our previous games...a lot of people contributed."

Inside The Numbers:

• Brinkman also pulled down four rebounds and added two assists.

• Taylor Steinbrunner scored ten points and led the team in rebounds with six.

• Cait Good finished in double figures with 11 points and went 2-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to put the game away.

• Nicole Sims finished with five points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

• Defiance outscored Adrian 31-23 in the second half.

• Both teams ended with 33 rebounds.

• Julia Tierman led the Bulldogs with 16 points.

• The Yellow Jackets shot 70% from the free throw line and Adrian shot 83%.

• Defiance drained ten threes in the game.

The Breakdown:

• The Yellow Jackets started strong and had an 18-10 lead but Adrian finished the first quarter on an 8-0 and the teams entered the second quarter deadlocked at 18.

• The Bulldogs turned seven Defiance turnovers into 12 points in the first quarter.

• Defiance drained six threes in the first half but both teams played even again in the second quarter and the game was tied at 36 going into halftime.

• The third quarter was a back and forth affair and the Yellow Jackets held a slim 53-51 advantage going into the final quarter.

• Defiance never surrendered the lead in the fourth quarter and outscored Adrian 14-8 for the victory.

• The Yellow Jackets forced a couple big turnovers late in the game to help ice it.

• Adrian tied the game at 57 with 7:39 remaining but the Defiance responded and closed the game with a 10-2 run.
