
Women's basketball travels to Adrian on Tuesday
DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Defiance College women's basketball team travels to Adrian College on Tuesday night for a non-conference battle against the Bulldogs at the Merillat Center.
Both squads have dropped three games in a row with Defiance standing 1-5 and Adrian is 3-4. Adrian has already taken down two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference members in Manchester and Earlham before their current skid with losses to Siena Heights, Trine and Saint Mary's College. Defiance's lone win of the year was a 10-point win over Saint Mary's, a team that defeated Adrian by 18 points on December 3.
Defiance is scoring 57.5 points per game compared to Adrian's 64.6 scoring average. Two statistical categories that could tell the tale are rebounds and turnovers. Both squads are near the bottom of their conference rankings in rebounding at 34.7 per game by Defiance and Adrian's 37.7, which is last in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. As for turnovers, Adrian has coughed up the ball nearly 20 times per game, fourth-most in the MIAA, while Defiance's 15.2 per contest is fourth-fewest in the HCAC.
Junior Jordan Phillips leads a very balanced Adrian scoring attack at 8.4 points per game while six other players average better than five per contest. Phillips is the top shooter from outside wiht 12 makes on the year. Freshman Ashlyn Weatherly's four rebounds per game are a team-high.
Defiance has had a different player lead the team in scoring in each of the last four games with Cait Good coming off a career-high 13 points at Hanover on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets also knocked down a season-best 11 3-pointers in their latest game.
