Women's Basketball falls in Bluffton in regular season finale

The Defiance women's basketball team concluded the regular season on Friday night with a 78-59 loss to rival Bluffton. The Yellow Jackets finish the regular season with a 14-9 record overall and a 9-7 record in the HCAC.

• Senior Nysha Speed led the Yellow Jackets with 18 points and seven rebounds.
• Junior Taylor Steinbrunner added eight points, four steals, and four rebounds.
• Senior Taylor Day chipped in seven points as did sophomore McKenzie Cooper.
• As a team, Defiance shot 25-of-65 (.385) from the floor and went 3-of-17 (.176) on three-pointers.
• Kayla Prigge was the leading scorer for the Beavers with 26 points and also recorded six rebounds, four steals, and four assists.
• Brianna Gillig scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds.
• Morgan Smith recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
• As a team, Bluffton shot 30-of-57 (.526) from the floor and went 11-of-24 (.458) on three-pointers.

The Difference

• After the first quarter ended in a 20-20 tie, Bluffton outscored Defiance 23-9 in the second quarter to take a 43-29 lead into halftime.
• Bluffton maintained their lead throughout the second half to win the game.
• Bluffton went 7-of-7 on free throws while Defiance went 6-of-11.
• The Beavers outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 44-24.
