Women's Basketball celebrates Senior Day with a win

The Defiance women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day by earning a win against Rose-Hulman in HCAC action on Saturday afternoon, 56-48.

Notables: Prior to the start of the game, Defiance honored seniors Briawna Francis, Taylor Day, and Nysha Speed.

• Speed led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points and grabbed three rebounds.
• Junior Lexie Sparks added ten points off the bench and snatched six rebounds.
• Sophomore McKenzie Cooper recorded nine points and dished out a team-high five assists.
• Junior's Taylor Steinbrunner and Kylie Brinkman each chipped in six points during the game.
• As a team, Defiance shot 21-of-49 (.429) from the field and went 6-of-19 (.316) from behind the arc.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets took a 13-8 lead after the first quarter.
• Both teams battled for the most of the second quarter but saw Defiance use a 7-0 run to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.
• The Yellow Jackets held onto their lead for most of the second half but Rose-Hulman would not go away, cutting their deficit to one, 47-46, with four minutes remaining in the contest.
• Defiance answered with an 8-0 run to take a 54-48 lead with two minutes left.
• The Yellow Jackets held on for the victory in the end, 56-48.
• Rose-Hulman held a slight edge in rebounding, 30-29.
• Defiance held an advantage in assists, 16-10.
