Five Yellow Jackets score in double figures in rout of Manchester

Five Defiance women's basketball players scored in double figures in an 84-67 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Manchester. The Yellow Jackets were paced by senior Nysha Speed who scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Inside The Numbers

• Speed recorded her sixth double-double and third 20 point game of the season.
• Junior Taylor Steinbrunner scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds.
• Senior Taylor Day scored 15 points, recorded three rebounds, and dished out three assists.
• Sophomore McKenzie Cooper scored 13 points off the bench and led the Yellow Jackets in steals with three.
• Junior Lexie Sparks added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
• The Yellow Jackets scored a season-high 84 points and shot 29-of-55 (.558) from the field and 9-of-19 (.474) from downtown.
• Macy Miller led the Spartans with 16 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with six.
• Miranda Bieghler added 15 points and had four assists. 
• Eva Bazzoni scored 13 points while Hillery Shepherd scored 11 off the bench and recorded six rebounds.
• As a team, the Spartans shot 23-of-60 (.383) from the field and went 5-of-18 (.278) on three-pointers.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets held a 22-17 after a hard-fought first quarter.
• Defiance closed out the first half on a 16-1 run while outscoring the Spartans 22-7 in the quarter to take a 44-24 lead into halftime.
• The third quarter saw the Spartans mount a comeback cutting the lead to five points after outscoring Defiance 25-12.
• The Yellow Jackets were able to hold off the Spartan comeback thanks in large part to 10 points from Steinbrunner during the quarter.
• Defiance outrebounded Manchester 32-26 and outscored the Spartans in the paint 38-32.
