Women's Basketball slips in road match-up against Franklin

The Defiance women's basketball team slipped in their road match-up against Franklin in HCAC play on Saturday afternoon, 74-62.

The Basics

Inside The Numbers

• Senior Nysha Speed led the Yellow Jackets notching her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also recorded two assists and two steals.
• Sophomore Kylie Brinkman added 13 points during the game and went 3-of-5 from the three-point line.
• Junior Lexie Sparks tallied ten points off the bench and grabbed four rebounds.
• Junior Taylor Steinbrunner chipped in seven points for Defiance.
• As the team, the Yellow Jackets went 20-of-32 (.323) from the field and shot 4-of-19 (.211) from behind the arc.
• Destinee Cross led Franklin with 15 points.
• CiCi Bailey added 13 points and snatched a game-high 15 rebounds off the bench.
• As a team, the Grizzlies shot 25-of-54 (.463) from the floor and went 2-of-7 (.286) from downtown.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets got off to an 11-4 start in the first four minutes of the first quarter.
• Franklin battled back to tie the game at 20-20 at the end of the first quarter.
• The Grizzlies grabbed the lead to start the second quarter and held on to that lead heading into halftime, 42-35.
• The third quarter saw Defiance go on a 11-4 to cut the deficit to two and make it 48-46 with less then five minutes in the third.
• Franklin then went on a 10-0 run of their own to make their biggest lead of the day, 58-46.
• The Yellow Jackets trailed by eight, 58-50, to start the fourth quarter and couldn't get any momentum going as the Grizzlies sealed the victory in the end.
• Defiance led with 2nd chance points, 16-13.
• The Yellow Jackets ended the game going 18-of-24 (.750) from the charity stripe.
