Women's basketball takes down Mount St. Joseph for first HCAC win of the season

The Defiance women's basketball defeated Mount St. Joseph 83-70 on Wednesday night in their first Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference game of the season.

Inside The Numbers

• Junior Taylor Steinbrunner led the team with 25 points and added seven rebounds.
• Senior Nysha Speed finished with 12 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
• Sophomore Kylie Brinkman added nine points.
• Defiance finished the game shooting 28-of-52 (.538) from the floor and 10-of-18 (.556) from the three-point line.
• Maddie Haberthy and Anyiah Murphy each scored 18 points for the Lions.
• The Lions ended the contest going 25-of-64 (.391) from the field and 10-of-29 (.345) from behind the arc.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 7-0 run. 
• The Lions were able to fight back to make the score 15-14 DC after the first quarter.
• Defiance used a 27-point second quarter to turn the tide of the game.
