Women's Basketball defeats Adrian in season opener

The Defiance women's basketball team defeated Adrian in their season opener on Monday night, 64-59.

• Senior Nysha Speed led Defiance with 13 points off the bench and grabbed ten rebounds.
• Junior Lauren Criblez and Senior Taylor Day each added 11 points.
• Junior Taylor Steinbrunner chipped in eight points for the Yellow Jackets.
• Junior Nicole Sims dished out a team-high seven assists and snatched nine rebounds.
• As a team, Defiance shot 20-of-73 (.274) from the floor and 7-of-26 (.269) from behind the arc.

• The Bulldogs jumped out to a 13-5 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter to establish early momentum.
• Defiance went on a 8-2 run to cut the deficit to two and end the first quarter only down, 15-13.
• Both teams battled back-and-forth in the second quarter and saw the game go into halftime tied up, 27-27.
• The Yellow Jackets snagged their lead of the game 30-27 after three straight free-throws to start the third quarter.
• Once again, both squads battled in the third quarter exchanging leads and ties going into the fourth quarter with game tied, 44-44.
• Defiance started the fourth quarter draining back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead, 50-44.
• The Yellow Jackets saw their largest lead of the game at 60-49 with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
• The Bulldogs would not go away late into the fourth quarter mounting small runs, but saw Defiance pull it out in the end, 64-59.
