Yellow Jackets come up short against Lawrence Tech
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College took the field for the fourth-consecutive doubleheader in four days on Sunday – this time against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Game one was a competitive battle between the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams, while game two got away from the Yellow Jackets in five innings at Sal Hench Field.
Game 1: Defiance 7, Lawrence Tech 13
The first contest of the doubleheader was a high-hitting affair for both Defiance and Lawrence Tech. However, Yellow Jacket batters were up five times with bases loaded, but capitalized with runs on the situation twice – singles by Morgan Scott and Sydney Fackler.
After four innings, the Blue Devils led 9-3. Two runs were from Ali Mowen, while Avery Roever reached home plate at the bottom of the fourth; Anika Craft, Scott and Kaylee Heath were credited with RBIs, respectively. Two-consecutive doubles from Lawrence Tech earned them one run at the top of the fifth. Now down by seven, DC turned it on for five hits and four runs, as Scott and Fackler notched their second RBIs of the game and Emma Linn putting up one of her own as her groundout brought home Taighen Zipfel.
At the top of the seventh, the visiting team ran up its score to 13 and the Jackets possessed seven. With runners on second and third, Scott flew out to left field to complete game one.
Game 2: Defiance 0, Lawrence Tech 8 (5 innings)
Lawrence Tech held Defiance to three hits and zero runs in game two, despite a clean, no error contest from either squad. Heath, Linn and Roever earned hits for the Yellow Jackets. Defensively, DC shut out the Blue Devils in the first, second and fifth innings, however, their six-run top of the third gained them momentum to finish on top.
