
Yellow Jackets stay perfect on day four of Space Coast Spring Games
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Defiance College claimed back-to-back victories against the Fitchburg State Falcons and the Florida National Conquistadors Thursday on day four of the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida.
The Jackets (5-11) got an early start to the day complete with a close 5-4 victory over the Falcons. Later in the day, DC kept up its momentum with a 6-5 rematch win over the Conquistadors.
In game one, both teams went scoreless through the first three innings until a single from Madison Guggenbiller – two on base – sent Emma Linn home for the first score in the bottom of the fourth. Morgan Scott put up a second run earning Kaylee Heath an RBI. In the fifth, Fitchburg secured its first run of the game, which was followed by three more for the Purple and Gold as RBIs from Linn, Scott and Guggenbiller contributed to points on the board.
The Falcons made a run at the top of the sixth ultimately bringing in three baserunners, however, a groundout to Heath at third base ended the inning and Defiance then held them in the seventh to take the game.
Emma Rodgers earned her first win of the season with a four-walk, four-hit, zero-run four innings pitched.
DC faced Florida National for the second time in the games, as the Conquistadors earned a 2-1 win on Sunday. This time, seven hits contributed to six runs for the Yellow Jackets, including two from Scott. Defiance struck first in the bottom of the second and added four more in the fourth. Florida National stormed back and tied the contest at the top of the fifth.
Tied at five with two innings remaining, neither team allowed a run in the sixth, and with one chance left, the Jackets ran home at the bottom of the seventh for the victory.
Taighen Zipfel earned her second win on the season and Sydney Fackler was credited with a save on the mound.

UP NEXT
Defiance College will play its final game in Florida on Friday against Fort Lauderdale at 12:15 P.M. The two previously played on Tuesday when the Eagles won 1-0.
