Craft named HCAC Pitcher of the Week
CARMEL, Ind. - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced Anika Craft as the Pitcher Athlete of the Week yesterday afternoon (Mar. 11).
During their spring break trip last week in Florida, Craft made three appearances, pitched two complete games and finished the week with a record of 2-0. She pitched 18.1 innings, struck out 16, and finished the week with an ERA of 0.76 while only allowing two earned runs.
Craft struck out 10 in her season debut in the 2-1 win over Simmons on March 4 and pitched a complete game. The win was DC's first of the season. In the seventh inning, Craft worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam to keep the game tied at one which led to the Yellow Jackets walking it off in the bottom of the inning to earn their first win of the season.
In game two on the 4th, Craft pitched 2.1 perfect innings of relief and struck out three against Wheaton.
Craft once again got the starting nod against Benedictine and the Yellow Jackets won that game in nine innings, 4-3. She pitched all nine innings, only allowed one earned run and struck out three. The tying run was on third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and she retired the last batter to earn the victory. Prior to that, Craft worked out of jams in the previous three innings to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game.
The Yellow Jackets return to action this weekend for four games at the Pioneer Classic in Elizabethtown, Ky.
