Softball dominates Anderson in HCAC road contest

The Defiance softball team dominated in an HCAC road doubleheader at Anderson on Thursday afternoon. They beat the Ravens in six innings, 10-0, and won in five innings during Game 2, 13-3.

Game 1

Inside The Numbers

• Senior Taylor Biggs started in the circle for the Yellow Jackets and earned the win. She allowed five hits with no runs and struckout four batters.
• Junior Marissa Roberts led Defiance at the plate going 4-for-4 including three singles and one double and grabbed one RBI.
• Junior Josilyn Guzman recorded three hits and two RBIs.
• Senior Hali Geraci added two hits and two RBIs including a homerun.
• Sophomore Brooke Silcox notched two hits and one RBI during the game.
• Freshman Destiny Coil chipped in one hit and three RBIs with one homerun, this made the fourth game in a row she has hit a homerun.
• Lexi Rankin earned the start for the Ravens and pitched the first 5.1 innings. She allowed nine runs off 12 hits.

The Difference

• Defiance grabbed the early lead in the first inning with a Hubble RBI double to make it 1-0.
• The Yellow Jackets earned two more runs in the second off a Geraci solo shot and a Roberts RBI single to increase their lead, 3-0.
• Geraci hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 4-0 for Defiance.
• The Yellow Jackets recorded six more runs in the sixth inning to seal the win 10-0
• Defiance ended the game with 13 hits and two errors.
• Anderson finished the contest with five hits and no errors.

• Freshman Anika Craft started in the circle, pitched all five innings, and tallied the win for the Yellow Jackets. She allowed three runs off three hits and recorded three strikeouts.
• Senior Kalin Hubble led Defiance with two hits and three RBIs, including two homeruns.
• Geraci notched three hits and three RBIs, including two doubles.
• Sophomore Laney Grimwood added two hits and three RBIs, she tallied her first homerun in the season.
• Roberts chipped in two hits during the game.
• Alexis Kern started for Anderson and pitched 0.2 innings. She allowed three runs off two hits.
• Sami Herron led the Ravens with two hits and one RBI.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
• Hubble and Grimwood launched solo homers each to increase the Defiance lead to 5-0 lead in the second inning.
• Anderson got their first run in the second inning making the score 5-2.
• Defiance scored four runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 9-2.
• The Ravens earned a run in the fourth to make it 9-3.
• The Yellow Jackets drove in four more runs in the fifth inning to take the win, 13-3.
