Bats Come Alive as DC Runs Past Albion

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Softball team made a clean sweep of Albion College this afternoon in Defiance, Ohio as they blanked the Britons in both games, 11-0 in the first contest and 4-0 in game two.

The Purple and Gold came out swinging in game one, recording five hits in the first inning alone. Brooke Gostomsky stepped up to crush a double to left field, advancing Jordan Osborne to third. Mariah Huff didn't disappoint in her at-bat, recording a RBI single to left field to score Osborne. She was followed by Emma Perry who also nailed a one-run single to center field, bringing around Gostomsky. Huff would go on to record the final run in the inning after Arianna Richards batted her in on a fielder's choice.

Defiance continued to dominate in the second and third innings, tallying 8 runs on 10 hits, improving their lead to 11-0. Osborne and Haley Patty would score on a Gostomsky double to left before Gostomsky would be brought in from Huff's right center double. Huff and Nashalsky went on to wrap up the inning with a pair of runs to put DC up 8-0 after two frames. Kaity Kuhn, Huff and Gostomsky each tallied one run apiece in the third.

DC would hold the Brits to just five hits in game one, sealing the victory 11-0 after five innings.

Defiance again opened the scoring in game two, recording two runs in the first inning from Osborne and Gostomsky before pulling away 4-0. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the fourth as Kuhn sac flied to advance Patty home followed by a final run in the fifth on a Perry solo homerun, clinching game two 4-0.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Sunday, March 25 as they host a triple-header with Adrian College and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville at the Sal Hench Field. Game one is set to start at 12:00 PM.
