GREENWOOD, Ind. – After besting his own Defiance College-record time this past week at the Wilmington #JennaStrong Fall Classic, senior Joe Davis was honored with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's cross country runner of the week.
It was Davis's (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) first time being chosen for the honor in his Purple and Gold career and the team's first selection (male or female) since Hayden Krick was the choice for the week of Sept. 10-16 in 2012.
A First-Team All-HCAC runner last season, Davis has been spectacular in 2013. He already established the school record earlier in the year at the Calvin Invitational on September 14 in which he ran a 25:44.60.
Davis was literally just a few steps better on Saturday at Wilmington, as the senior clocked in a time of 25:43.21. The new DC-record time was just over one second faster and gave Davis a 16th-place finish out of a field of 416 runners.
36 schools and all three divisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association were represented at the competition.
The Yellow Jackets will now set their sights on the HCAC Championships on November 2. DC will host the championship race, which is set to begin at noon on the campus's athletic complex.
