Defiance finishes five runners on the podium at Manchester Invitational

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Defiance College Yellow Jacket track and field programs traveled to Manchester University's Spartan Stadium for the 2025 Manchester Invitational on Saturday. Five runners finished on the podium, including a first-place ending for Mira Horvath in the 400-meter dash, as 12 additional new individual records were set. 

J'Vontae Barnes and Tyjon Woods took home second and third place, respectively, in the men's 400-meter dash. Barnes set himself a personal record with a time of 51.28, while Mance's time of 51.76 was just under a minute shy of his personal best in the event. Also on the men's side, Zyon Woods' first time competing in the 110-meter hurdles earned him a second-place finish in 15.35 seconds. Horvath's 400-meter dash, top finish, was completed in 1:00.53. Rakel Thompson also placed top-3 as her time of 27.05 in the 200-meter dash became a new personal record.

  • 200 Meters: Rakel Thompson, 27.05 (3rd); Taylor Haynes, 28.70 (11th, PR); Amira Knight, 29.41 (12, PR)

  • 400 Meters: Mira Horvath, 1:00.53 (1st)

  • 800 Meters: Zawadi Debola, 2:36.74 (11th); Adeline Niyonkunda, 2:57.13 (14th)

  • 1500 Meters: Zawadi Debola, 5:47.51 (27th)

Women's Field Results

  • Javelin Throw: Mira Horvath, 15.35 meters (16, PR); Amanda Barnes, 12.29 meters (18, PR)

  • Discus: Lynsey Pease, 21.01 meters (17th, PR)

  • Shot Put: Lynsey Pease, 8.69 (16th); Amanda Barnes, 7.89 meters (18th, PR)

  • Long Jump: Amira Knight, 4.31 meters (6th, PR); Mira Horvath, 4.09 meters (7th)

  • 110-Meter Hurdles: Zyon Woods, 15.35 (2nd, PR)

  • 200 Meters: Tyjon Mance, 23.19 (4th); Marcus Snell, 23.38 (5th); Zyon Woods, 24.00 (10th, PR)

  • 400 Meters: J'Vontae Barnes, 51.28 (2nd, PR); Tyjon Mance, 51.76 (3rd, PR)

  • 1500 Meters: Eli Fortman, 4:40.09 (51st, PR); Jake Stephens, 5:00.10 (57th, PR)

Men's Field Results
