Mance highlights DC runners on second day at River City Relays
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Defiance College track and field returned to the circuit at the University of North Florida on Saturday and competed against a field comprised of mostly Division I and II programs.
One of the highlights for the day came from a trio of men's sprinters in the 200 meters who finished just seconds off the winning time set by runners from schools such as Tennessee State, Bethune-Cookman and Maryland. Tyjon Mance ran the race in 23.16 seconds for a 13th-place overall finish but came in third during his section of the finals. His time is now a top-10 time in the school record books, currently sitting as the eighth-fastest time in the 200 meters. Marcus Snell posted a 23.35, which tied the previous 10th-place mark. Zyon Woods also ran a strong race at 24.55 as all three runners beat their best time in the 200 meters from the indoor season.
Jvontae Barnes posted a fourth-place finish in the lone hurles event Defiance competed in over the weekend, finishing a hair over one-minute flat as the top non-DI finisher. Zawadi Debola was the only non-DI runner to take on the 1500 meters and posted a 14th-place finish. DC's women also had a quartet run the 200 meters with Mira Horvath and Rakel Thompson finishing neck-and-neck just under 27 seconds.
