DEFIANCE, Ohio - In a highly carded game, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets lost its offensive momentum creating a 5-1 loss to the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. Between the two teams, six yellow cards were handed out Saturday at Winsper-Knobel Field.
In a quick 10-minute span in the first period, Noah Carmona notched two back-to-back goals to go up 2-0 on the Yellow Jackets. In the 47th minute of the second period, Quinn Holtzapple found the back of the net for the first time this season, putting Defiance within a score. Following DC's goal, things became chippy letting five yellow cards fly and ball possession was dominated by the Wolverines. Mohammedbakker Ibrahim, Andrew Schwartz and Kaelan Wright were then put in scoring position making it nearly impossible for the Yellow Jackets to fight back.
The Turning Point
Will Gehlhausen's yellow card in the 60th minute set the tone for the rest of the match. Off a penalty kick as a result of the card, Schwartz's goal sailed into the net to go up 4-1. Defiance's defense struggled to keep the ball on its side of the field following the fourth Wolverine goal.
