Yellow Jackets fall short against UNOH despite strong defensive showing
LIMA, Ohio - Assisted by the return of goalkeeper Zach Canterbury, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets resisted the Northwest Ohio Racers for 53 minutes, before ultimately dropping the match 4-0, leading to its sixth-straight shutout loss.
DC (0-11, 0-5 WHAC) met UNOH (5-4-1, 3-1-1 WHAC) with a strong defensive front. Possession bounced back and forth through the entire first period, which was the inaugural shutout period forced by Defiance on the season, which led to the longest drought by an opponent when facing the Yellow Jackets.
It wasn't until the start of the 54th minute when Racer's Josh Pearson found the back of the net to put UNOH on the board 1-0. The Racers began advancing the ball quickly, giving Canterbury a challenge as the period went on in his first game back since suffering an injury against Alma Sept. 11. He allowed three more to end the match.
The Turning Point
Despite UNOH's goals in the 54th and 65th minutes, DC remained strong on the defensive side of the ball. It wasn't until the 80th minute and third goal that the Racer offense heated up, which propelled them to their fourth and final goal in only the 82nd minute to complete the match's scoring.
