CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Defiance College men's soccer team traveled to play the Mount St. Joseph University Lions in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 3-2 victory at Schueler Field.
In the 27th minute (26:47), Defiance's Christian Rennie (Conroe, Texas/Porter) began the scoring to give the guests a 1-0 lead. Mount St. Joseph tied the game in the 34th minute (33:18) before the Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 halftime advantage on a goal from Maxwell Alvarado (Muncie, Ind./Burris Laboratory) that was assisted by CJ Koller (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) in the 44th minute (43:15). DC increased its advantage to 3-1 on an own goal in the 76th minute (75:43) before the Lions tightened things up with a score in the 87th minute (86:44).
Defiance finished with a 15-11 edge in shots, including 11-1 in the opening half. The Yellow Jackets posted eight shots on goal to MSJ's six.
In goal for DC, Harrison Hirth (Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer) played all 90 minutes and made four saves. Mount St. Joseph collected five saves.
Defiance improves to 9-7-2 overall on the season, including 4-2-1 in the HCAC play. The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday,October 30 as they travel to Earlham College to take on the Quakers in an HCAC match up. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
