Four Yellow Jackets men's hoopers named Academic All-WHAC
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced the 2024-25 men's basketball season awards on Friday with four players making their way on the All-Academic Team.
The announcement included the WHAC's All-Conference Teams, Players and Coach of the Year, Champions of Character Team, and All-Academic Awards. The WHAC's All-Academic Team awards student-athletes who have been at their institution for one full year and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and above. The Champions of Character Team includes one member from each school who exemplifies the five core values of the NAIA character initiative (integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership).
Junior forward Jordyn Jury (Bascom, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) earned the distinction of the team's representative on the Champions of Character team and garnered his second straight Academic All-Conference Award. Jury's younger brother, Ried Jury, also earned Academic All-WHAC honors for the second straight season. Through the Fall 2024 semester, the Jurys carry the men's basketball program's highest GPAs among academic award-eligible student-athletes.
Two other honorees earned their first career Academic All-Conference Awards. Sophomores Dre'Sean Roberts (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua) and Jeffrey Smith (Edgerton, Ohio/Fairview) both earned their way on the list of the WHAC's top academic performers for men's basketball in their first season of eligibility.
With four total honorees for the 2024-25 season, the Yellow Jackets have earned 18 Academic All-Conference Awards in the last four years under head coach Josh Gibson.
Among the WHAC's All-Conference Awards, Lourdes' Shaunn Monroe was named Player of the Year after he earned Newcomer of the Year in 2023-24. Indiana Tech claimed Defensive Player of the Year (Javel Lewis) and Coach of the Year honors (Ted Albert) as the regular-season conference champions. The complete list of First and Second Team honorees, All-Newcomer Team and 2024-25 Men's Basketball Awards can be viewed here.
The WHAC Tournament continues on Saturday afternoon with the semifinal games taking place between Indiana Tech and Madonna in addition to UNOH versus Cornerstone. The conference championship game is scheduled for March 4.
