Yellow Jackets complete exhibition circuit with trip to Miami of Ohio
OXFORD, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets competed for the final time in 2024 and the team's last exhibition contest of the year against the Miami Redhawks, which ended in a 141-58 loss at Millett Hall on Monday.
The loss did not impact the overall record for the Yellow Jackets (3-9, 1-6 WHAC) but did result in the eighth win of the year for the Redhawks (8-4), who improved to 5-1 at home this season just ahead of their conference opener later this week. The contest was also the most lopsided of DC's four Division I exhibitions this year.
The Redhawks showed why they are the top shooting team in the Mid-American Conference with a dominant first half in which they posted 74 points on 76 percent shooting. They also buried 12 3-pointers, another category that they were able to pad as the MAC's top team in the category. Despite missing their first two shots from the floor, Miami nailed their next eight shots from the field to run out to a 20-6 lead. They missed just three shots over the first 12 minutes of the game. They cooled off slightly in the second half and hit two-thirds of their tries and made 10 more triples. For the game, Miami shot 72 percent compared to 38 percent for DC.
Donovan Stone led Defiance in scoring at 11 points followed by Zayhem Bradwell and Evan Angstmann with nine points each. Angstmann hit a trio of 3-pointers while Carter Sudhoff, Jalen Brown and Connor Bush posted a team-best three rebounds. Ahmir Ruffin made the most of his minutes near the end of the contest and posted six points, including a trey.
