Marell Jordan picks up season’s first HCAC Player of the Week Award
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College senior guard Marell Jordan has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Jordan (Chicago, Ill./Lafayette Jefferson) is the first recipient of the award for the second season in a row.
In two games at DC's season-opening Purple and Gold Tournament, Jordan led all scorers among four institutions with 54 total points and a 27.0 average to aid Defiance's conference-topping scoring offense. His 27.0 points per game are the most among HCAC players through the season's first week.
He also pulled in 10 total rebounds, blocked three shots and swiped seven steals in those two games, during which the Yellow Jackets went 1-1. Jordan ranks among conference leaders in the top 10 in each blocks (sixth) and steals (fourth), first in free throws made, and top-25 in assists (2.0 per game, 24th) and rebounds (5.0 per game, 19th).
The Yellow Jackets are back home on Wednesday night for a non-conference bout with Alma College (0-1). Tipoff at the Weaner Community Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
