Jordan's game-winner lifts men's basketball over Hanover

Senior Marell Jordan made a game-winning lay-up in the final seconds to lift the Defiance men's basketball team over Hanover in HCAC action on Saturday afternoon, 74-73.

Inside The Numbers

• Sophomore Andre Edwards led Defiance with a career-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
• Jordan added 19 points and snatched a team-high eight rebounds along with dishing out four assists for the Yellow Jackets.
• Junior Jerome Johnson scored a career-high 18 points going 6-of-9 from the three-point line.
• Freshman Landen Swanner chipped in six points on the afternoon.
• As a team, the Yellow Jackets went 28-of-62 (.452) from the field and shot 9-of-21 (.429) from behind the arc.
• Matt Munoz led Hanover with 20 points and recorded a game-high ten rebounds.
• Noah Williams added 18 points during the contest.
• As a team, the Panthers shot 27-of-48 (.563) from the floor and went 6-of-13 (.462) from downtown.

The Difference

• The game with both team's making early shots and then saw the Yellow Jackets go on a 12-6 run to take a 29-16 lead with less than ten minutes remaining in the half.
• The Panthers didn't back down and chipped away at the their deficit and were only down 42-36 at the half.
• With the score 62-51 in favor of Defiance, Hanover went on a big 16-5 run to tie the game up at 67-67 with three minutes remaining.
• Hanover gained the lead for the first time, 71-70 with a minute and a half after an Isaac Hibbard lay-up.
• Edwards took the lead back with 25 seconds remaining to make it 72-71.
• Munoz drained two free throws to take the lead, 73-72, with less than ten seconds remaining.
• Jordan gained the inbound pass and drove all the way down the court to nail the game-winning lay-up and give Defiance a thrilling victory, 74-73.
