Defiance Falls 90-66 at Anderson
ANDERSON, Ind. – The Defiance College men's basketball team fell 90 -66 this evening in Anderson, Indiana to Anderson University. The men fall to 3-17 overall and 2-11 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Demoines Whitney with 25 points, scoring 17 of them in the first half alone. The Ravens held most of the momentum in the first, but DC was able to weather the storm, trading baskets for nearly half of the first period to trail by only five. The energy finally fell into the home team's advantage, giving them a slight seven point edge at 21-14 with 10:34 remaining on the clock. AU finished the half with an 11-2 sprint that gave them the 54-33 lead going into the second half.
The Ravens continued their domination in the second period, expanding their lead to 28 with three consecutive three-pointers within the first two minutes. Elijah Pennington brought the Purple and Gold to within 22, hoping to ignite a comeback with 10:01 remaining. But it was too little too late as AU again swell the deficit to 28 points. The home court advantage would prevail, sending the Yellow Jackets home with a 90-66 loss.
Whitney finished with a double-double, recording 25 points and 11 rebounds. Kiewuan Graham added 12 points and three assists while Pennington and Avion Franklin netted eight and seven points respectively.
Defiance is back in action on February 3 as they travel to take on Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
