Defiance led early in the first half, including having a three-point edge, 9-6, following a layup by Hill at the 15:49 mark. The Thunder then went on an 11-0 scoring run to take their first lead of the contest to lead by eight points, 17-9, with 9:29 left in the period. But DC came right back with a three-pointer by Parker and a three-point play by Mangas to narrow the gap to two points, 17-15, with just over eight minutes to go.

The Yellow Jackets hung around and chipped away at the deficit to get to within three points, 64-61, with just under 30 seconds remaining in the game. DC was forced to foul Trine which turned it into four points at the free-throw line to preserve the lead and go on to claim the 68-62 victory.
