
Hicks named HCAC Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, Ind. - Defiance College senior forward Ryan Hicks (Port Clinton, Ohio/H.S.) led the Yellow Jackets to the Washington & Lee Season Tip-Off Tournament title over the weekend and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
GREENWOOD, Ind. - Defiance College senior forward Ryan Hicks (Port Clinton, Ohio/H.S.) led the Yellow Jackets to the Washington & Lee Season Tip-Off Tournament title over the weekend and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The senior opened the season with nine points, on 4 of 5 shooting, and six rebounds in an 87-47 win over Southern Virginia on Friday. Hicks also picked up an assist, a steal, and a block in 24 minutes of action.
Hicks was huge in Saturday's 83-79 win over Ferrum in the title contest, netting 27 points with nine rebounds and four assists to earn tournament MVP honors. Hicks logged a team high 38 minutes in the contest and was 12 of 19 shooting.
For the week, the senior averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest, while shooting 66.6% (16-24) from the field.
Hicks and the rest of the Defiance Yellow Jackets (2-0) will travel to Alma (0-2) for an 8 p.m. tip on Wednesday.
