In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, compete on a collegiate varsity men's basketball team and possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher at the conclusion of the 2010-2011 academic year. The athlete must also have completed at least one year at their current NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA institution.
Defiance highlighted a group 12 student-athletes to be honored from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. DC's trio was joined on the list by three athletes from Bluffton, three from Franklin, two from Transylvania and one from Hanover.
The Tietje brothers and Brown will return for the 2011-2012 campaign as part of a five-man senior class for the Yellow Jackets on the planks. Brown will enter his final season needing 95 points to become the 44th member of the 1,000-point club for Defiance. Brown is set to join C.J Johnson (2004-2008), Anthony Pettaway (2005-2009) and Nick Sales (2006-2010) as the fourth player to reach the milestone for the Jackets in the past five seasons.
